Christmas in Spain
A few weeks ago in the Blogsfarm travel net we started showing different ways that Christmas is celebrated in some European countries. It is a pleasure to tell you how Spain celebrates Christmas especially with the excitement and happiness spaniards have.

After December the 8th the Christmas spirit begins spurting al througout Spain. On that day the Immaculate Conception is celebrated and it has significant meaning in Seville. After this important celebration the 22th of December Christmas really begins especially because the Christmas Lottery starts and many people are part of this.

This lottery is so important that television stations transmit it for at least 5 hours. Bars, factories and offices work slowly without making noise so that they are able to hear the children from the San Ildefonso School sing the winner´s names. The first prize known as “The Chubby One” distributes around 1,803,036,31 euros which every single spaniards wants to win.

Just like in Portugal every single Christmas Eve there is the “Midnight Mass,“ also known as the “Rooster Mass.” It is named like this because the rooster was the first animal to see the birth of Jesus and announce it to the world. Every member in the family usually attends this “Midnight Mass.”

Dinner on Christmas Eve is a family event and everyone likes to eat the lucky grapes at midnigh because they are supposed to bring good luck for another year. People doing this start eating 12 grapes and hearing the 12 chimes from the clock.
Christmas in Spain is a worry-free holiday and a time to celebrate Jesus´ birth.
