Christopoher Columbus´House

Since the Canary Islands got together with the “Corona de Castilla” it´s magnificent port has become an expansion into the Atlantic Ocean. Since the beginning of time when colonizing started in the american continent, “Las Palmas de Gran Canaria” were the base of many ships that sailed to the new world. Three of the four trips that Christopher Columbus made to the new world started or were related in a way to the Canary Islands. Today, the House of Christopher Columbus is a great museum and there are many things to see especially with the importance the Canary islands has in the colonization of America.

Christopher Columbus´ house is a place to visit if you are ever in the area. It is in the heart of Vegueta, where the governor used to walk. The first floor is complete with information about the discovery of the new world. There are great things to see and beautiful ways to learn. Wonderful reproductions of the ships that were used to travel by Christopher Columbus. There are several pre-colombian paintings that are wondeful to look at. There is also an underground tunnel that is connected to the Canary Cathedral. The second floor has all the information about the history of the city throughout the years.

In this museum you are able to learn about what happened in this city throughout the years and how it affected sailors from all around the world. There are also some beautiful paintings that the Prado Museum has left in this house so people can see how exquisite they are. It is definitely a place to go.
