Garajonay National Park

If you ever are in the Canary Islands you should not miss out on the island named “La Gomera.” Why? Because in the middle of this island you will find the Garajonay National Park which takes up around 10% of the island.

After 1981 we know it as this names and years after in 1986 the UNESCO declared it as an asset of Humanity. Did you know that this Garajonay National Park is located over volcanic rocks and has been formed around 12 million years before? Normally you are able to see that there is fog around this national park. If we look at the inside of the Garajonay National Park we are able to find the National Monument of Las Roques. The importance of this national park is because it is a part of the Old World, a humid forest were there are different species of leaves that used to cover Europe hundreds of years ago. Can you imagine that? This is without a doubt a great thing to see in such a scenic place with so much history.

Another one of the important things to see in the Garajonay National Park is it´s wildlife. We are able to find arourn 1,000 species of invertebrates. And about 38 vertebrates which are made up of reptiles and birds. Because this National Park is already protected it has double protection due to the extraordinary birds that live there.

Another place to see in this area is “The Organs,” and the “Barranco Del Sur De La Gomera.” The first one is an extraordinary geological formation. To get to this place you have to go to the northern part of the park. The second place mentioned is to the south of the park.

Remember that you are in a place were plants and animals are protected so you must always protect them.
