San Fermín, a holiday you don´t want to miss
This traditional holiday starts from July 7 to the 14th. San Fermín is an extremely important holiday in which bulls take center stage. Spain has more than 3,000 holidays and festivities throughout the year. But, the most important and fun one is the holiday of San Fermín.

Before dawn on the 7th of July a young group of men get together in Santo Domingo which is known to be the starting point. The young men get together and form a cluster where they sing to San Fermín, whose statue is placed on the wall. A part of the song says, “We pray to San Fermín to guide us within himself.”
After the song or pledge a gunshot is hear and a big group of bulls are left to roam the streets as they please. The gunshot is heard by everyone and that is the signal that the bulls have been let out. Young men run all over trying to fend off the bulls and their horns.

When the bulls get to the end of the street their keepers are there waiting for them, where they are later put away in their cages. Many of them are shown again when they go into a fight with a bull fighter.
Many people say that this tradition has been around since 1951, when the residents of San Fermín had to herd their cattle into their homes. At first there were designated people that were doing this, then the butchers who bought the cattle starting helping others to get the bulls into the plaza. They were herded throughout the Santo Domingo street until they got to the plaza.

Throughout time this specific event has started to become more popular over time and has since then become a popular holiday that is attended by everyone that wants to join in the bull herding or wants to watch.
